Care and Warranty for Soapstone

Care of Soapstone is a simple process. We recommend applying mineral oil or bee’s wax to all sinks and countertops upon installation. Mineral oil/bee’s wax enhances the inherent natural veining characteristics and crystallization detail of the stone.

First Enhancement

Clean top with water to remove any stone dust residue. When dry, pour mineral oil or bees’ wax directly onto the surface of the soapstone. Rub the oil into the stone with a clean, dry rag. Let the oil sit for at least a half hour. Wipe off the excess oil with a new rag.

Following Up

The follow up oiling is up to the individual homeowner. You can enhance the stone by treating it once a month for a few months, or once a month for a year. That will be up to you. A general guide to reapplying the mineral oil is, when water is leaving a noticeable dark spot, its time to oil.

Cleaning Soapstone

Usually just wiping the soapstone with soap and water works to clean the stone. You can clean your soapstone anytime, including after the mineral oil treatment. Soapstone will stand up to any mild cleaner. Sink corners can be easily kept clean with the use of a small vegetable brush when needed. Abrasive cleaners are not recommended.

Sanding

Most scratches will disappear with a direct dab of mineral oil. To permanently remove a deep scratch, apply medium pressure to the scratched area with 220 grit sandpaper (a very fine sandpaper). A sanding sponge is recommended to remove surface scratches.
